The digital marketing space is continuously moving forward, and it is often tough to keep up with the trends. Twenty-eighteen has been an exciting year for digital with the online world becoming increasingly more visual and automated with marketers having to realign their strategies accordingly.
Voice Search has been around for some time now, however marketers have been treating it as a fad. The use of voice search in 2018 is allowing consumers to find more information without even having to pick up their phone. To put figures on this trend to give an idea of its growth, out of the 3.5 billion searches each and every day one third of these are voice searches. Comscore also predicts this figure will be more than half by 2020.
The advancements of Google, Siri and the rising popularity of products such as Amazon Echo/Dot or the Google Home makes voice search extremely accessible for consumers. The implementation of voice search presents a challenge for content marketers and SEO’s as they work to optimize their content and website for the future of search as we move away from full-text.

Augmented Reality (AR) Marketing
We are beginning to see Augmented Reality more and more from brands over the last year as it becomes mainstream. What was once described as a gimmick is now being implemented in many company strategies with a strong upward trend. Augmented Reality is a technology enhanced version of reality through a device where real-world environments are augmented with superimposed computer-generated images, as a result enhancing a consumer’s current perception of reality.
Ikea used AR technology really well in a recent campaign they ran in 2017 called “Place” allowing customers to use the app and see a 3D render of the furniture they are looking to buy in their own place.

Programmatic is the hot new ‘buzz word’ in the marketing circle. In the last year and a half there has been a huge shift towards marketers using programmatic’s for PPC advertising. For anyone who hasn’t heard of it yet, programmatic advertising is simply a new method of media buying using machines to automate ad buying so they can target more specific audiences. An example of programmatic ad buying is real-time bidding or auctions. This form of automation is much more efficient and faster, which means higher conversions and lower customer acquisition costs meaning generally a higher ROI when implemented correctly.
According to eMarketer more than $65 million will be spent on programmatic advertising by 2020 and more than 80% of Display ads in 2018 will be bought programmatically.
